On Friday, WHO Chief Declared Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated: "with great hope that I declare Covid-19 over as a global health emergency."

As per World Health Organisation, COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a Global Emergency, which means it is the end of the coronavirus pandemic that once killed almost 7 million people all around the globe. Despite the end of the emergency phase, the pandemic, according to WHO, is still ongoing due to recent increases in cases in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. According to the U.N. health agency, the virus continues to claim hundreds of lives each week.

On this Friday, Director-General of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "It's with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as a global health emergency."
Then he continues, "That does not mean COVID-19 is over as a global health threat," he said, adding he wouldn't hesitate to reconvene experts to reassess the situation should COVID-19 "put our world in peril."

Tedros noted that the pandemic had been declining for more than a year and that most nations had already resumed their normal lives prior to COVID-19. He regretted the harm COVID-19 had caused to the world, claiming that the virus had destroyed enterprises and the economy that took millions into poverty.

However, he warned about the new variant as well; he also said, "COVID has changed our world, and it has changed us. On January 30, 2020, the U.N. health agency initially labeled the coronavirus an international issue, but it had not yet been given the name COVID-19, and there had been no significant outbreaks outside of China.

Over three years later, the virus has been estimated to have resulted in 764 million cases throughout the world, and 5 billion individuals have at least one dosage of the vaccination. On May 11, the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration will come to an end in the United States, along with a number of other pandemic response measures, such as vaccine mandates. The outbreak last year ended, due to which many other nations, notably Germany, France, and Britain, abandoned many of their precautions.

In 2020, Tedros announced COVID-19 to be an emergency, and he stated in 2020, Tedros announced COVID-19 to be an emergency, and he stated. In contrast, those of the nations that had the highest COVID-19 death tolls, such as the United States and Britain, had previously been considered to be the best-prepared for a pandemic. Data from the WHO show that only 3% of all recorded deaths worldwide occur in Africa.

After assembling an expert committee on Thursday, WHO decided to downgrade its highest level of alert on Friday, the U.N. agency doesn't "declare" pandemics, but it was in March 2020, when the virus had spread to all continents except Antarctica, that it first used the phrase to describe the outbreak, long after many other scientists had claimed that a pandemic was already in progress. WHO also advised against the public using masks as COVID-19 protection for months, which many health officials claim resulted in the loss of lives.

Additionally, many experts criticized WHO for being reluctant to accept that COVID-19 was routinely distributed through the air and by healthy individuals, as well as for the agency's lack of robust guidelines to prevent such exposure.
